Director, Safety and Health
Mike Garrett has over 18 years of professional experience in the chemical and power generation industries. These include operation of 620-megawatt coal fired power plant, safety and health management of coal, gas, and wind facilities, as well as Construction Safety Manager for the completion of a 267-megawatt wind project in 2014 and completion of a 440-megawatt natural gas facility in 2016. His experience also includes managing the safety and health processes for chemical corporation that specialized in phenolic resin within their Forest Product Division.
His expertise includes implementation of safety management systems, facility auditing, safety training, behavioral based safety, coaching of human performance, compliance, emergency response (industrial fire, high angle rescue, ambulance, and confined space rescue) and construction/outage project management.
Currently, he is serving as the Manager of Safety and Health, responsible for the safety and health process within IHI Power Services Corp (IPSC). Prior to joining IPSC, Mr. Garrett worked at Hexion Inc. and Portland General Electric in various roles such as Safety Leader, Construction Safety Manager, Safety Coordinator, Journeyman Operator, and Safety Committee Chairman.
A native Oregonian, Mr. Garrett currently holds a Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) certification and attended and graduated Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration Voluntary Protection Program (OSHA VPP) Special Government Employee Program (SGE). He currently is completing his last term at Columbia Southern University and will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety and Health. He is an active community volunteer working with Habitat for Humanity, Wounded Warrior Project, and Oregon SOLVE.
